President of Somaliland Meets National Party Leaders
A Unified Effort to Strengthen Peace and Democracy

Today, on December 21, 2024, the President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), held a meeting at the Presidential Palace with the leaders of the three National Parties: WADDANI, KAAH, and KULMIYE.
The President thanked the three National Parties for attending the meeting he called, congratulating them on their success in the recent national elections, and confirming their status as the National Parties for the next ten years.
The President informed the leaders of the three parties that regular meetings and briefings with the national parties would be a standard practice to discuss matters of national importance and any emerging issues that require consultation. He assured the National Parties that they were part of the national leadership and promised to keep them directly informed of all developments concerning the nation.
Furthermore, the President provided a detailed briefing on the general security situation in the country, especially focusing on the conflicts in the Erigavo District. He stated that his government is not at war with its people but has a constitutional duty to defend the country from any aggressors, emphasizing that the National Army is fully mandated to protect both the nation and its citizens.
On another note, President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi of Somaliland once again called for an unconditional peace initiative for all parties involved in the conflicts in the eastern Sool and Sanaag regions.
Following this, representatives from the two opposition National Parties, KAAH and KULMIYE, took the floor to express their gratitude for the consultative meeting called by the President. They stated that the President's action served the interests of the Somaliland nation. The two opposition parties pledged to work closely with the President and his government on security, economic, and unity matters. They provided mature and legacy advice regarding the security situation in the country and how to manage the current conflicts.
Additionally, the opposition parties promised to collaborate with the government in raising public awareness, promoting social development, unifying the people, and combating propaganda and divisive rhetoric within Somaliland society.
The opposition parties also advised the President to strengthen and empower the political parties and democratic processes, which would facilitate the advancement of public thought and collective resistance against tribalism and societal division within Somaliland.
Lastly, the leadership of the ruling party WADDANI made a brief statement agreeing with and adopting all the issues discussed in the meeting. They suggested cooperation on matters of national importance, particularly in formulating a national strategy for peace in the Erigavo District and the Sool region.
This meeting, of great national significance, was concluded by President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi of Somaliland, who once again thanked the three National Parties for their participation, ending the meeting on a note of success and patriotism.
